A Journey to the Sacred: Batu Caves

Seen the pictures of colorful steps online, wondering where in the world such a photo perfect place could exist? It is know as Batu Caves, located just outside of Kuala Lumpur. These limestone caves are a popular tourist destination and hold great religious significance for Hindus. For backpackers, don’t worry about you wallet as the Batu Caves are FREE to visit. As you climb the 272 colorful steps leading to the caves, you’ll be greeted by the impressive sight of the iconic golden statue of Lord Murugan, standing tall at 140 feet. Architectural Marvels at KLCC

KLCC, short for Kuala Lumpur City Centre, is home to some of the most iconic architectural marvels in the city. The crown jewel of KLCC is the Petronas Twin Towers, once the tallest buildings in the world. These magnificent skyscrapers are a symbol of Malaysia’s modernity and economic progress. Take a stroll through the beautifully landscaped KLCC Park, where you can relax amidst lush greenery and enjoy the stunning view of the towers. You can get some good excerise at this park and their are water fountains available with filtered water for when you get thirsty in the Malaysian Heat. Inside the towers, you’ll find Suria KLCC, a premier shopping mall with a wide range of luxury brands and dining options.

Cheap Food and Shopping: Chinatown

Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur is a paradise for budget-conscious backpackers seeking cheap food and shopping. While its not as “popping” as Bukit Bintang, it has its place in your Kuala Lumpur itinerary. This vibrant neighborhood is filled with colorful market stalls, street food vendors, and traditional Chinese architecture. Explore Petaling Street, the main street of Chinatown, and browse through a wide variety of goods, from not so real designer products to local handicrafts. Bargaining is a common practice here, so make sure to haggle for the best prices. Indulge in delicious street food, many of the food vendors have been doing their thing for hundreds of years in the very spot you will eat from.
