Choosing the Right Accommodation Near Angkor Wat

When planning your trip to Angkor Wat, it is important to choose the right accommodation near the temple complex. By staying near Angkor Wat, you can maximize your time at the temples and minimize travel time. You will want to stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia, specifically near the lively Pub Street city center. This area offers convenient access to food, drinks, and shopping when you’re not exploring the temples. You will have a wide variety of places to stay at, but be careful as rooms can fill up fast during peak season (November-March). Booking in advance is recommended in the peak season.

Exploring Transportation Options in Siem Reap

Once you arrive in Siem Reap, you will need to explore transportation options to get to and around Angkor Wat. One popular choice is to hire a Tuk Tuk, which is a small, three-wheeled vehicle commonly used for transportation in Cambodia. There is also the more traditional Tuk Tuk pulled by a motorcycle available as well. Choose whatever option you like, as both provide a convenient and memorable way to get around Angkor Wat! Tuk Tuks are affordable, convenient, and can navigate the narrow roads around the temple complex. You can easily hire a Tuk Tuk from your accommodation or from the city center. Another option is to rent a bicycle and cycle to the temples if you prefer a more active and eco-friendly mode of transportation.

Obtaining Passes for Angkor Wat Temples

Before you can enter the Angkor Wat temples, you will need to purchase a pass. The prices for the passes are as follows: $37 for a 1-day pass, $62 for a 3-day pass, and $72 for a 7-day pass. It is typically recommended to buy the pass in advance to save time and avoid long queues at the ticket office, however it is not necessary and your driver can bring you to the office to purchase the ticket. Depending on the time of day you arrive you may be in and out of the ticket office in less than 5 minutes, so do not stress if you have not purchased online in advance. Keep your pass with you at all times as you WILL be asked to show it when entering the temple grounds.

Deciding on Tour Guide Options

When exploring Angkor Wat, you have the option to hire a tour guide or use a guided audio tour. A tour guide can provide valuable insights and information about the history and significance of the temples. They can also help navigate the complex and point out hidden gems. Alternatively, if you prefer a more flexible and independent experience, you can rely on your Tuk Tuk driver to provide a tour. Many drivers are knowledgeable about the temples and can serve as your personal guide during the visit.

As you explore the temples, take your time to appreciate the intricate carvings, stunning architecture, and serene atmosphere. Covering your knees is REQUIRED at Angkor Wat, shorts for both men and women are not allowed under any circumstances. Come Prepared! Don’t forget to bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water as it can get hot and humid in Cambodia. Consider visiting during sunrise or sunset to witness the temples in a different light and capture breathtaking photos.
